About the AICE Program at MHS

Reputable

CIE (Cambridge Assement International Education) is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year olds.  AICE is affiliated with the University of Cambridge.  As a point of comparison, as of February 2011, there were 6,975 IB schools worldwide in 140 countries. On the other hand, there are over 9,000 schools in 161 countries that offer CIE qualifications, and this number continues to grow, especially in the United States.

A study done by the Director of Admissions found that AICE program graduates attending the University of Florida had an average end-of-freshman year GPA of 3.46 whereas students coming from other acceleration mechanisms such as Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) had an average GPA of 3.12 and 3.10 respectively.

These results were recently corroborated by a study of AICE students at FSU which found that "after controlling for SAT score, Cambridge AICE students achieve a higher GPA, on average, than IB students and students having no extra credit."

Flexible

Both the Cambridge AICE program and International Baccalaureate program are established academic programs with an established history and exemplary track record of success.  One of the advantages of the AICE program here at Mandarin, however, is that it offers greater flexiblity to students.  Indeed, the AICE advantage is the students’ ability to take AICE classes and exams at any stage in their high school career starting in 9th grade, whereas IB students are only allowed to take exams during their 11th and 12th grade years, respectively.  AICE students who take exams within three years are able to position themselves for an AICE diploma by the end of their junior year.

In addition to providing opportunities to earn college credit or advanced standing at colleges and universities throughout the US, the AICE program also offers a broad curriculum that prepares students to become well-rounded and empathetic citizens within a global community. The curriculum also fulfills requirements of eligibility for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship.

Rigorous

The AICE program also offers a rigorous curriculum that imparts the necessary skills to succeed at the post-secondary level and in the current marketplace.  Through the AICE curriculum, students will learn how to analyze, examine, and dissect in courses such as Chemistry, European History, Psychology, and Global Perspectives.  The most successful students will earn a Cambridge-conferred diploma in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

During the 2017-2018 school year, Mandarin students found tremendous success on accelerated coursework examinations (AICE and AP) achieving an incredible 96% pass rate for the AICE Diploma Award.
